How to take a portrait that nails your virtual try-on
The single biggest factor in try-on quality isn't the AI model — it's your portrait. Here's what we've learned from thousands of generations.
A great virtual try-on starts with a great base photo. Get this right once and every garment you try afterwards will look sharper, more natural and more like you.
1. Stand against a plain background
A blank wall, a curtain, or any uncluttered backdrop works. Busy backgrounds confuse the AI's edge detection and bleed into the rendered outfit.
2. Use even, front-facing light
Window light is ideal. Avoid harsh overhead lighting that creates strong shadows on your face or torso, and never shoot with a bright window directly behind you.
3. Frame from the knees up
A three-quarter framing (knees to head) gives the model enough room to render tops, bottoms and outerwear without cropping.
4. Wear something form-fitting
Baggy clothes hide your silhouette. A plain t-shirt and slim trousers give the AI the cleanest possible canvas to dress.
5. Stand naturally — arms slightly out
A neutral pose with arms a few inches away from your body gives clean separation between sleeves and torso. Skip the hand-on-hip — it complicates fitting.
